I’m Clare Walsh, PhD. I’m the co-founder of New Trends, Same Humans, a quarterly magazine that provides insight into working with decision technologies.

Clare Walsh

I live on the edge of the second largest natural harbour in the world. When I’m not at home, you’ll probably find me in an aisle seat somewhere.

After working as a best selling educational author and expert advisor in assessment, I started looking for new challenges. I retrained with the prestigious Web Science Alliance, looking first at computing and assessment analytics, and then branching out into other fields of data. Today I am the Director of Education at the Institute of Analytics and I advise professionals on how to get the best out of data.

New Trends, Same Humans

A quarterly look at the way we make decisions from a human and machine perspective, with an even split between academic and cultural inquiry. Our latest issue looks at what Bayesian approaches tell us about how we should weight information.

Training the next leaders

I’ve written books used in classrooms every day in over 30 countries in the world. I created innovative assessments, including increased computer delivery of assessments and tests of complex modern skills. I was the lead researcher and designer of the Institute of Analytics Competency Framework. I’ve trained everyone from CEOs to warehouse staff, and have advised on responsible AI at national level.

Public speaking and media

I’ve delivered conference talks and training all over the world over the years. I’ve contributed expert opinion in major national and international newspapers and am a regularly contributed to radio, podcasts and magazines.

Today, I consult with governments and industry experts. I work to develop training plans to upskill the whole nation in the ability to work with data and machines. Topics range from managing cultural change, to learning specific tools. I’m often found on a panel at conferences, but my happy place is working to communicate what technological change means for everyone.
